Tinkering Story #05 – Lunar occultation of Mars – December 08, 2022by spacetinkerer.comDecember 8, 2022September 20, 20233 CommentsIt was quite an experience seeing the planet Mars disappear behind the Moon and emerge after an hour. Freezing cold, at 5 in the morning and frost was all over my equipment, but it was worth every second! Shot from Reading, UK. Occultation video: https://vimeo.com/779215469Full Mineral Moon and Mars Occultation! This is a Full Mineral Moon and Mars Occultation! Although Mars is about twice the size of our Moon, it looks really small as it is 200 times farther than the Moon at its closest approach. After a demanding post-process, I managed to create an image that combines several Moon features. Planet occultation is a rare event occurring every few years. Moon colours are real, greatly exaggerated in post-process, indicating our satellite’s geology. The glow is the actual Moonglow from an overexposed image. The following image briefly describes the processing stages. 3 thoughts on “Tinkering Story #05 – Lunar occultation of Mars – December 08, 2022” Pingback: Moon and Mars!
