Live the unique Wild Camping experience in the Southernmost Point of Europe! This is a one-week tour dedicated to Astrophotography under Bortle 1 skies. We will also shoot Infrared Photography during the day. Advanced shooting and post-processing techniques will be shared by an awarded astrophotographer.
Planned Tours:
- May 2025. From May 24 to 31.
- June 2025. From June 21 to 28.
Please get in touch with me for a detailed tour schedule.
IMPORTANT: Schedule your trip as part of a wider trip in Crete island, allowing at least one day margin before and after the designated Tour dates. Gavdos is only accessible by a (relatively) small ship, and weather conditions may cause delays.
Gavdos island has a population of no more than 200 people (although during the summer time it is visited by a significant number of people). It is one of the few places in Greece where wild camping is welcome! It is the perfect place for hiking, reconnecting with nature and of course, Astrophotography as it features Bortle 1 dark skies! The scenery is breathtaking! Cedar and pine forests, dunes, beautiful beaches and the Libyan Sea as it meets the blue skies compose a dreamy landscape.
As expected, the amenities are limited. No hotels, no gas stations, no clubs, no light pollution! There are a couple of Mini Markets, a bakery, a few taverns and a few rental rooms available.
A relatively good physical condition is not a prerequisite, but it will help. In most cases, the shooting spots will require a few-minute walk. The most difficult (but really interesting!) spot to reach requires a 1-hour trek on a mildly demanding track. (Add 1 more hour to return, so you should be able to trek for 2 hours).
We will be staying in tents. After all, the whole purpose is living the Wild Camping experience! Each participant will have their tent. The dimensions are 2.6 x 2.2 x 1.9 meters, so there’s a lot of space. Each tent is equipped with the following:
- Clean sheets
- Inflatable bed.
- Small table and chair.
- Lantern
- Carpet inside the tent
- Synthetic turf in front and under the tent for better insulation.
- Shade
- Detachable top so you can see the stars as you lie down (without mosquito interference!).
- Portable shower.
- Portable water container.
- Ηammock
- Power bank.
We will be charging our batteries and mobile phones with a solar panel. Also, a portable fridge will be available for cold water and snacks.
